Heat butter in a pan over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until golden brown, about 5 minutes.
Add garlic and ginger, cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Add tomato paste and cook for another 2 minutes.
Add canned tomatoes, garam masala, and salt. Simmer for 10 minutes until sauce thickens slightly.
